Volunteer We need your help! Organize a gathering of friends, family or co-workers to collect non-perishable food items, furniture, bedding, household items or toys to benefit the Deep Well Project. Or, “adopt a family” during the holidays. There are many ways to get involved with the Deep Well Project. Office WorkersOur office volunteers work 4 hour shifts, with regular volunteers working 9-1 on their assigned day, with a second shift working 1-5 on their given day. The job of an office volunteer is to answer the phones as the first client contact, take down all pertinent information for the request and follow up on validating the need. We are always in need of substitute office volunteers, who take over when our “regulars’ are unable to work on their assigned day. Food DeliveryDeep Well has a food delivery volunteer every weekday. They come to our office at their appointed time, pick up their assignments (usually 2-5 families a day) and pack groceries from our pantry. They deliver the food directly to the client’s home. We are always in need of substitute food delivery volunteers, who take over when our “regulars” are unable to work on their assigned day. On-CallDeep Well maintains a list of people we can call who are willing to drive clients to appointments or can go shopping, usually for clothes and shoes. Deep Well is always short on volunteers (usually men) who have strong backs and can help us with furniture pickups. We have the truck; we just need the muscle! Livable HousingDeep Well welcomes anyone who has carpentry/building skills to help with repairs and renovations of local houses and mobile homes. Plumbers, electricians, and roofers are always in short supply. One-time JobsDeep Well has many “one time” volunteer opportunities for those who can’t give time on a regular basis. November and December are our busiest times of the year, and we always need extra help with food drives, holiday food packing, holiday food deliveries, and Christmas toy packing and distribution. During the rest of the year, we have sporadic need of volunteers, to assist with food drives, especially in May, when the letter carriers of the US Post Office sponsor a food drive. Translators With our growing Hispanic population, we are in need of Spanish speaking volunteers. This can be done from your home, with Deep Well giving you the phone number of the client for you to contact. After you have obtained the client information, you can call us or fax the request to our office. To volunteer, call the Deep Well office at 785-2849 or reach us by e-mail at: DWProject@Hargray.com
