A Deep Well Story

Sally is a 63-year-old lady who was left disabled by a brain aneurysm, and is no longer able to work. She lives with her grown son, who is a Downs Syndrome person and is also a brittle diabetic. As it happens too often, those in great need often don’t ask for help. Because the son goes to a program for disabled adults, the program administrator realized there were home problems, and she called a government agency, which sent over a home health agency representative. The health worker found that there was not one piece of food in the whole house, and that the home needed many small repairs. We brought over food that very afternoon, and have since made another large grocery delivery. Our Livable Housing volunteers fixed her door, and we are preparing for the hot weather by getting her an air conditioner. Sally was also in danger of having her electricity turned off, for the son’s disability, check was too small to keep up with her electric bills. Deep Well paid the back balance of the bill for her. The home health worker is helping her to apply for long-term government assistance, but until that process is completed, Deep Well will be on hand to help Sally and her son with their basic needs.

People such as Sally have been hit hard by the tragedies of life, and we will never understand why she was dealt such difficulties. But thanks to our community’s generous support, Sally has a safety net to help her deal with these hardships.
